At Artemis Wellness Clinic in Richmond, we believe that accessing quality healthcare should be as straightforward as possible. That is why we offer direct billing with most major extended health insurance providers — so you can focus on your treatment and recovery instead of worrying about paperwork and reimbursement.
What Is Direct Billing?
Direct billing means that we submit your treatment claim directly to your insurance provider on your behalf. Instead of paying the full amount out of pocket and then waiting for reimbursement, you only pay the portion not covered by your plan (if any) at the time of your appointment. This saves you time, eliminates paperwork, and makes treatment more accessible.
Insurance Providers We Bill Directly
We offer direct billing with most major Canadian extended health benefit providers, including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life Financial, Manulife Financial, Canada Life (formerly Great-West Life), Green Shield Canada, Desjardins Insurance, Industrial Alliance, Medavie Blue Cross, ClaimSecure, and many other group benefit plans.
If your insurance provider is not listed above, please contact us at 604-242-2233 to confirm whether we can bill directly with your plan. In most cases, we can.
Services Covered by Extended Health Benefits
Most extended health benefit plans in British Columbia cover the following services offered at our clinic:
Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) — Coverage typically ranges from $300 to $1,000 per year. RMT services must be provided by a Registered Massage Therapist in BC. All massage therapists at Artemis are fully registered with the CMTBC.
Acupuncture — Most plans cover $300 to $500 per year for acupuncture. Services must be provided by a Registered Acupuncturist. Our acupuncturist, Mandy Tam, is fully registered with the CTCMA of BC.
Physiotherapy — Physiotherapy is widely covered, typically $300 to $1,000 per year. Some plans require a physician’s referral for coverage.
Chiropractic Care — Most plans cover $300 to $500 per year for chiropractic services.
Kinesiology — Coverage for kinesiology varies by plan. Some plans cover it under “exercise therapy” or “rehabilitation services.”
Please check your specific plan for coverage amounts, visit limits, and any referral requirements. Your benefits booklet or your HR department can provide this information.
ICBC Coverage
If you have been injured in a car accident in British Columbia, your treatment at Artemis may be covered through your ICBC claim. We accept ICBC referrals for RMT, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and chiropractic care. ICBC coverage is separate from your extended health benefits.
For a complete guide on ICBC claims, read our article on how to use your ICBC claim for treatment in Richmond.
WorkSafeBC Coverage
For workplace injuries, your treatment may be covered through WorkSafeBC. We accept WorkSafeBC claims for RMT, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and chiropractic care. Read our guide on WorkSafeBC claims for treatment in Richmond.
MSP Supplementary Benefits
British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP) provides limited supplementary benefits for certain services. If you have MSP premium assistance, you may be eligible for a small number of acupuncture, physiotherapy, or chiropractic visits per year. Ask us for details when you call to book.
Frequently Asked Questions About Insurance and Billing
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
For most extended health benefit plans, you do not need a doctor’s referral to see an RMT or acupuncturist. Some plans require a referral for physiotherapy or chiropractic care. Check your specific plan or ask us when you book.
How do I find out what my plan covers?
Check your benefits booklet, log in to your insurance provider’s online portal, or call the number on the back of your benefits card. You can also call us at 604-242-2233 and we can help you figure out your coverage.
What if I have multiple insurance plans?
If you have coverage under more than one plan (for example, your own employer plan plus your spouse’s plan), you may be able to coordinate benefits to maximize your coverage. Let us know about both plans when you book and we can help.
Can I use my benefits for family members?
Some plans include coverage for dependents (spouse and children). Check your specific plan for family coverage details.
What happens if my benefits run out?
You can continue treatment on a private-pay basis. We offer competitive rates and can provide receipts for tax purposes. Healthcare expenses may be eligible for the medical expense tax credit on your income tax return.
