How Often Should You Get a Massage?
Short answer
It depends on your goals. As examples, Dave Tam, RMT, describes weekly visits for about the first month for something more serious, tapering as symptoms become easier to manage, and every three to eight weeks for ongoing care. Your therapist recommends a schedule after an assessment.

About this video
Start with your goals and an assessment
Dave Tam, Registered Massage Therapist at Artemis Wellness Clinic in Richmond, BC, explains that appointment frequency begins with what a patient wants to address. For a more significant concern, he recommends coming in for an assessment so a therapist can help shape the plan.
A schedule that can change over time
In the video, Dave gives an example of weekly appointments for roughly the first month, followed by less frequent visits as symptoms become more manageable. He also mentions a three-to-eight-week interval for ongoing care. These are examples from his explanation, not a standard schedule for every viewer; the recommendation should reflect an individual assessment, needs and schedule.

What Dave Tam, RMT says in the video, from its captions.
It depends on your goals and what you're dealing with. For something a little bit more serious, I would recommend a patient coming in and getting assessed by one of our therapists. A typical treatment plan would be something like once a week for the first month or so, and then tapering it down once the symptoms can be managed better by the patient.
For ongoing maintenance and intervention, I would typically recommend treatment every three to eight weeks. Again, your therapist can also make a recommendation based on your schedule and based on your needs.
