If you carry extended health insurance and your insurer’s name isn’t Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, or Green Shield Canada — but the back of your card mentions TELUS Health, TELUS Assure, or TELUS eClaims — then we can probably direct bill your insurer at Artemis Wellness Clinic at 5911 No. 3 Rd #130, Richmond BC — three minutes’ walk from Brighouse SkyTrain.
TELUS Health is the dominant electronic claims processing platform in Canada — used by dozens of smaller and mid-size insurers to handle real-time direct billing. If your insurer routes through TELUS Health, our front desk can submit your claim electronically and you only pay the uncovered portion at the desk. Most patients pay $0 to $30 out of pocket.

What is TELUS Health (eClaims)?
TELUS Health (formerly known as TELUS Provider Connect, and before that as Emergis) is the largest electronic claims platform in Canada for paramedical services. Rather than building their own claims systems, many insurers — particularly small to mid-size ones — partner with TELUS Health to handle real-time direct billing for paramedical care (RMT, acupuncture, physiotherapy, chiropractic, kinesiology, naturopathy, podiatry, etc.).
For you as a patient, this means: even if your insurer is small or unfamiliar, if they’re on TELUS Health, your visit can be direct-billed without you fronting the cost. TELUS Health processes claims for 20+ insurers serving millions of Canadians.
Insurers Routed Through TELUS Health (Common Examples)
The following insurers commonly route claims through TELUS Health for paramedical services. If your card shows any of these brands, ask us if direct billing is available:
- Empire Life
- Equitable Life of Canada
- Cowan Insurance Group
- Desjardins Insurance
- Industrial Alliance (iA Financial Group)
- Johnston Group (Chambers Plan)
- Beneva (formerly SSQ + La Capitale)
- Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance Plan
- GroupSource
- GroupHEALTH
- First Canadian Insurance Corporation
- GMS (Group Medical Services)
- Maximum Benefit / People Corporation
- Nexgenrx
- ClaimSecure
- Manion (third-party administrator)
- D.A. Townley
- CINUP
- RWAM Insurance Administrators
- Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) — for veteran benefits
⚠️ Important: participation through TELUS Health depends on whether your specific employer plan or policy is registered for paramedical eClaims. Some plans bypass TELUS Health and require you to submit a paper claim afterward. Our front desk can verify in 30 seconds when you book.
How TELUS Health Direct Billing Works at Artemis
The flow is essentially the same as any other direct billing — TELUS Health is just the back-end platform routing your claim to your insurer:
- Before your first visit, you give reception your insurer’s member ID, plan/policy number, and your insurer’s name (the brand on your card).
- At your appointment, your practitioner provides the treatment. You sign a one-time authorization so we can submit on your behalf.
- At checkout, our front desk submits the claim electronically through the TELUS Health system to your insurer. The response — including how much your insurer covered — comes back within seconds.
- You pay only the uncovered portion — typically $0 to $30, depending on your specific plan.
You leave with a printed receipt showing exactly what your insurer covered, what you paid, and (where applicable) your remaining benefit balance for the year.
What You’ll Actually Pay — Three Worked Examples
The exact pattern depends on your specific insurer plan, but the typical outcomes:
Example 1 — Empire Life plan, 100% up to $80/visit, $500/year RMT cap
You book a 60-minute RMT session at $135.
- Empire Life pays via TELUS Health: $80
- You pay at the desk: $55
Example 2 — Equitable Life plan, 80% coverage up to $1,200/year
You book a 75-minute Acupuncture session at $160.
- Equitable Life pays: $128 (80% of $160, within annual cap)
- You pay at the desk: $32
Example 3 — Cowan plan, 100% up to $1,000/year RMT
You book a 60-minute RMT session at $135.
- Cowan pays: $135 (within annual cap)
- You pay at the desk: $0
How to Verify if Your Plan is on TELUS Health
Option A — Check the back of your insurance card. If you see “TELUS Health,” “TELUS Assure,” “TELUS eClaims,” or a TELUS logo, your plan is registered.
Option B — Check with your insurer directly. Call the member services number on your card and ask: “Is my paramedical coverage processed through TELUS Health for direct billing?” The agent will confirm.
Option C — Just call us at 604-242-2233. Our front desk can submit a test claim through TELUS Health while you’re booking. If your plan is registered, the system tells us instantly.
Why Patients Choose Artemis for TELUS Health Claims
1. We process TELUS Health claims daily. Smaller insurers and TPA-administered plans often have quirks (extra authorization steps, different submission protocols). Our front desk handles them routinely.
2. One clinic for five disciplines. RMT, Acupuncture and TCM, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, and Kinesiology — all under one roof, all routed through TELUS Health where applicable.
3. Practitioners share patient charts. When Mandy Tam, R.Ac coordinates with Dave Tam, RMT Director, your file moves with you internally.
4. Brighouse SkyTrain access. 3 minutes from the SkyTrain, directly across from Pricesmart Ackroyd, with evening and Saturday appointments.
What to Bring on Your First Visit
- Your insurance card — physical or digital screenshot (we need both sides)
- Your insurer’s name — written clearly (e.g., “Empire Life,” “Equitable,” “Cowan”)
- Photo ID (driver’s licence or BC services card)
- List of any current medications
- A short note about what you’d like help with
You’ll fill out a 5-minute intake form on arrival (or online beforehand). Book a full 60-minute slot for your first visit so the intake doesn’t eat your treatment time.

Frequently Asked Questions
My insurer is small / I’ve never heard of it. Can you still direct bill?
Probably yes, if it routes through TELUS Health. Empire Life, Equitable Life, Cowan, Desjardins, Johnston Group, GroupHEALTH, Industrial Alliance, Beneva, GMS, Nexgenrx, ClaimSecure, and 10+ other insurers route through TELUS Health for paramedical claims. Check the back of your card or call us.
My card says TELUS Health — does that mean I’m definitely covered?
TELUS Health is the platform, not the coverage. Your insurer determines what’s covered, the per-visit cap, and the annual maximum — TELUS Health just transmits the claim. Verify your specific coverage with your insurer or have us run a test claim while you book.
What if my insurer isn’t on TELUS Health?
We can still see you. You pay the standard session rate at the desk and we provide a detailed itemized receipt you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement (typically processed in 1-2 weeks). For non-TELUS insurers, we also direct bill Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, ICBC, and WorkSafeBC.
Do I need to pay upfront and get reimbursed?
No — for plans on TELUS Health, you only pay the uncovered portion at the front desk. For plans NOT on TELUS Health, you pay the full session price and submit a receipt for reimbursement.
Can I direct bill TELUS Health for both RMT and Acupuncture in the same visit?
Yes — but they’re typically billed against separate benefit pools, and each session is its own claim. Each visit settles independently.
What if my insurer is Empire Life / Equitable Life / Cowan / Desjardins / etc. and I’m not sure if direct billing works?
Call us at 604-242-2233. Our front desk runs test claims through TELUS Health for these insurers daily — we can confirm in under a minute.
Does TELUS Health work for spouses or dependants?
Yes — claims are submitted under each patient’s own name but reimbursement runs through the contract holder’s policy.
What’s the difference between TELUS Health and Provider Connect?
None — Provider Connect was the previous name for what is now TELUS Health eClaims. Same platform, rebranded.
